It is important to have goals in life. Something to look forward to every morning. Having goals is the difference between successful people and unsuccessful people. The ones who don’t have goals in life have nothing to work for. They have nothing motivating them to work hard every day to be successful. The ones who have goals are the one who are constantly improving and bettering themselves to achieve those goals and make their dreams come true.
You should set goals for yourself everyday. Short term goals keep you active and attentive. These can be anything from completing all your projects at work, to cleaning the house or finishing a project that you have been meaning to finish but have not gotten around to it. Achieving these goal at the end of the day can have a positive effect on your mood and overall happiness. I can leave you with a sense of accomplishment as well as relief that leads to feeling relaxed and at peace. With more relaxation and less stress, it is easier to get a good night’s sleep with out anxiety and thoughts of disappointment keeping you up.
Long term goals are just as important in life, if not more. Long term goals such as graduating from school, having a family, or even to be financially stable, can give your life meaning. It gives you a purpose. You know who you are and what you want in life. Having a goal allows you to set a path for yourself and lead you in the right direction to end up where you ultimately want to be. With out long term goals there is no direction. People who don’t have goals are lost and go round and round in circles and never end up anywhere.
The lack of goals can lead to feelings of guilt, shame, and worthlessness. Replacing goals with temporary states of “happiness” are just that, temporary. That happiness will eventually fade and then you will be left with nothing to look forward to and no reason to make a better life. Having goals leaves you with the feeling that you are doing something with your life. That you have a purpose and that you are working hard towards something. That feeling alone can bring so much happiness not to mention the enormous amount of happiness you will feel once you achieve those goals.
“Don’t let life change your goals, because achieving your goals can change your life.”
